Do I Need Motorcycle Insurance?
Yes! If you have a motorcycle in Texas, you are required to carry liability insurance by law.
Your coverage must meet the state minimums of $30,000 in bodily injury coverage for each injured person in an accident, up to $60,000 total for all bodily injuries in an accident, and $25,000 for property damage per accident.
These minimums won’t be enough to fully cover you in most cases. We highly recommend increasing your minimums so that you are better protected.
Texas has one of the highest rates of uninsured drivers on the roads in the US. Adequate motorcycle insurance will ensure you are not left out of pocket if your are involved in an accident with an uninsured driver.
What Does Motorcycle Insurance Cover?
In addition to the basic liability insurance required by law, riders can choose from a wide array of additional coverage options for their Texas motorcycle policy to meet their specific needs:
Comprehensive coverage: If your motorcycle incurs damage due to incidents such as fire, theft or vandalism, comprehensive coverage may help pay for repairs or replacement.
Towing and labor: This is similar to emergency roadside assistance and will cover you if you need a tow and labor costs associated with a dead battery, a flat tire, lost keys or a broken down bike.
Collision coverage: If you the policyholder is deemed at fault, this coverage will help repair or replace your bike.
Medical payments coverage: Covers riding injuries after an accident and is especially important if you don’t have adequate health insurance.
Trip interruption coverage: Trip interruption covers lodging, transportation and food if a breakdown or collision happens if you becomes stranded on a road trip.
Uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage: Uninsured motorist provides the same level of protections as would be expected in an auto policy. It will help pay related repair costs If your bike is hit by a driver who doesn’t have insurance or enough coverage to pay in full for repairs.
Your motorcycle insurance policy will give you peace of mind every time you get out on the road. You have security in the knowledge that it will pay for: costly damages and repairs to your motorcycle, medical bills, rental and towing costs.
